PROBLEM STATEMENT
We are not engaging all of our learners, all of the time. As a result, students are not growing as they should, students are at times disengaged, and students sometimes act out.
HOW MIGHT WE…
Rethink the way we use our space, people and time to redesign three classrooms, across three grade levels to ensure students receive the differentiated instruction they deserve to increase student engagement and excitement around learning.
SOLUTION
Teachers and students will participate in a structured goal setting process that will outline individual learning goals that are based in student’s personal interests and learning styles. As a result of this process, students will be provided multiple opportunities to make decisions about how they will learn and how they will demonstrate their learning. This will increase student self-motivation, engagement and increased achievement.
IMPACT
“This experience has been really meaningful for our team. It has allowed us to dig deeper into our staff, students and stakeholders more than ever before. We all now understand the importance of using empathy actions to seek feedback from all stakeholders.”
“We walked in thinking we knew exactly what we needed to do- create a personalized learning track for each student. We look at that now and laugh a little because it was so narrow. We’re excited about the progress we’ve made to create this new solution to a deeper problem that was only uncovered through participating in this design process.”
